IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay-One of the most anticipated highlights of the annual Araw ng Zamboanga Sibugay celebration, the Talaba Grill, will be held around the Rotunda area this year, marking the first time the event will take place at the very center of town.

In previous years, the Talaba Grill was staged within the Provincial Capitol Complex. However, provincial officials decided to relocate the event to the Rotunda area to accommodate a larger crowd and make the activity more accessible to Sibugaynons and visiting guests during the province’s 25th founding anniversary.

The Talaba Grill has become a signature attraction of Araw ng Sibugay, drawing thousands of residents and tourists eager to partake in the free grilling and sharing of oysters, one of the province’s well-known local products. The activity not only celebrates Sibugay’s rich coastal resources but also highlights community spirit and togetherness.

According to the Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU), the decision to move the venue is part of broader efforts to elevate this year’s celebration, given its significance as the province’s silver anniversary. Holding the event at the Rotunda is expected to increase foot traffic, encourage wider participation, and create a more festive atmosphere right at the heart of Ipil.

In line with the milestone celebration, the PLGU also disclosed that discussions are ongoing about a possible attempt to set a Guinness World Record related to the Talaba Grill. While details have yet to be finalized and confirmation remains uncertain, officials said preparations are being explored should the attempt push through.

Initial information also revealed that this year’s Talaba Grill is expected to draw wider national attention, with Mark Logan, a renowned journalist, set to cover the highly anticipated event. His participation is seen as a boost to the province’s efforts to showcase Sibugay’s culture and signature celebration to a broader audience.

The Provincial Government also expressed its gratitude for the full support of the Local Government Unit of Ipil, particularly under the leadership of Mayor Ramses Troy Olegario, whose cooperation and assistance were instrumental in facilitating the transfer of the venue to the Rotunda area.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the Guinness bid, provincial leaders assured the public that the Talaba Grill will proceed as planned and remain a centerpiece of the Araw ng Sibugay festivities.

The 25th Araw ng Zamboanga Sibugay celebration is expected to feature a series of cultural, historical, and entertainment activities throughout the anniversary week, with the Talaba Grill once again serving as a symbol of unity, abundance, and shared celebration among Sibugaynons.
