PLGU Zamboanga Sibugay Steps Up Relief Operations as Over 2,300 Families Affected by Typhoon Inday
Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay — The Provincial Government of Zamboanga Sibugay (PLGU-ZSP) has intensified its humanitarian response following the widespread flooding brought by Typhoon Inday, with Governor Ann K. Hofer directing all concerned provincial offices to sustain relief operations and ensure that assistance reaches every affected Sibugaynon.
In a press statement released by the Provincial Government, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) reported that 2,343 families have been affected and/or evacuated due to flooding in the municipalities of Imelda, Diplahan, Payao, Kabasalan, and Siay.
To address the immediate needs of displaced residents, the Provincial Government has already distributed 1,351 food packs to families staying in evacuation centers and flood-hit communities. Relief operations remain ongoing as validation and ground assessments continue to identify additional beneficiaries and determine the full extent of the disaster's impact.
Governor Hofer has ordered all provincial offices involved in disaster response to remain on high alert, continue monitoring conditions in affected areas, and work closely with local government units to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of relief assistance.

According to the Provincial Government, response efforts now extend beyond the distribution of relief goods. Rapid damage assessments are likewise being conducted to evaluate losses to homes, public infrastructure, agriculture, and livelihoods, paving the way for appropriate rehabilitation and recovery programs once floodwaters subside.
The PLGU also appealed to affected families to prioritize their safety by remaining in designated evacuation centers until local authorities officially declare their communities safe for return. Officials warned that flood-hit areas may still pose risks due to unstable structures, contaminated water, and other hidden hazards.
As part of its public health advisory, the Provincial Government reminded residents to avoid wading through floodwaters whenever possible, citing the risk of waterborne diseases, infections, and physical injuries. Individuals experiencing symptoms of illness were encouraged to immediately seek medical attention or report to their respective rural health units.
The Provincial Government assured the public that disaster response operations remain in full swing and that relief efforts will continue until the needs of affected families are adequately addressed.
Governor Hofer reaffirmed the Provincial Government's commitment to ensuring that every Sibugaynon affected by Typhoon Inday receives the necessary assistance while recovery and rehabilitation efforts are being prepared to help communities rebuild in the aftermath of the disaster.
