Titay Fire Station Keeps Close Watch on Flood-Prone Areas Amid Habagat Rains

Ipil,Zamboanga Sibugay – Residents of flood-prone communities in Titay remained under close watch as personnel of the Titay Municipal Fire Station (MFS) carried out intensified monitoring operations following flooding in parts of Poblacion, Titay on July 24, 2026.

The flooding occurred after hours of continuous rainfall brought by the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), which affected several areas in Mindanao and triggered rising water levels in creeks, waterways, and low-lying portions of the municipality.

Under the direction of SFO4 Neil P. Siaron, Acting Municipal Fire Marshal, fire personnel immediately assessed the situation on the ground, monitored affected areas, and maintained coordination with local authorities to ensure that appropriate response measures could be carried out if the condition worsened.

The monitoring efforts focused on observing changes in water levels and identifying areas that may require immediate intervention, particularly communities vulnerable to sudden flooding during prolonged rainfall.

Residents were reminded to remain alert and prioritize safety by keeping track of weather updates from PAGASA and following advisories issued by local authorities. Families in vulnerable locations were encouraged to prepare emergency kits containing basic necessities, including food, water, medicines, flashlights, batteries, and important personal documents.

The public was also advised to avoid attempting to cross flooded roads, bridges, and waterways, especially those with strong currents, as flood situations can change rapidly and pose serious risks.

The Titay MFS likewise raised awareness on the possible health hazards brought by flood exposure. Floodwaters may carry harmful microorganisms, chemicals, and other contaminants that can lead to illnesses such as leptospirosis, diarrhea and other gastrointestinal infections, skin diseases, and mosquito-borne illnesses including dengue due to stagnant water accumulation.

Residents who come into contact with floodwater were advised to immediately clean exposed skin, properly treat wounds, use protective gear such as boots when necessary, and seek medical attention if they experience symptoms like fever, body pain, diarrhea, or skin irritation.

The Titay Municipal Fire Station continues to monitor weather developments and remains prepared to respond to emergencies as the rainy season continues. Authorities urged the public to remain cautious and cooperative, emphasizing that awareness, preparedness, and timely action are crucial in minimizing the impact of flooding and other weather-related emergencies.
