KAGAY SIBUGAY NEWSMAGAZINE FORMALLY LAUNCHED IN IPIL
Zamboanga Sibugay’s First and Only News Magazine Marks a New Chapter in Local Journalism IPIL, ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY - Kagay Sibugay, the province’s first and only news magazine, was formally launched yesterday, November 18, 2025, in a milestone ceremony held at Bads Brotel Suites in Pangi, Ipil Zamboanga Sibugay. The event marked the official comeback of the publication, which aims to strengthen truthful, responsible, and community-centered journalism in Zamboanga Sibugay.
Provincial Administrator Atty. Jay Millena, who served as Guest of Honor and Speaker, led the ceremony with an inspiring message underscoring the importance of credible local journalism. He emphasized that Kagay Sibugay can become a vital platform for truth, transparency, and information dissemination in the province, especially at a time when communities need reliable sources of news.
Also present were key local leaders and representatives from various sectors. Among the attendees were Ipil Mayor Ramses Troy Olegario; Roseller Briones, President of the Ipil Zamboanga Sibugay Chamber of Businesses and Industry; representatives from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG); the Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Police Office; and the Philippine Information Agency (PIA). Ipil councilors Hon. Jong Alcoriza and Hon. Iric Alibutdan also attended to show their support, while members of the religious sector, led by Mr. Asterio Sumalinog and Ms. Jocelyn Teves of the Social Action Ministry of the Diocese of Ipil, likewise expressed their solidarity with the event.
Media organizations graced the occasion as well, including local media practitioners, Jose Policarpio, president of the Zamboanga Sibugay Media Club, Inc. and representatives from X FM, signaling strong support from the journalism community. The launch also marked the unveiling of the maiden issue of Kagay Sibugay, featuring stories from across the province and special segments such as Campus Beat, which showcases the works of young Sibugaynons; Munisipyo ni Totoy Bibo; and Tigmo-Tigmo Agukoy, a page of vernacular riddles crafted to spark creativity and fire the imagination of Sibugaynon readers. The event concluded with a renewed commitment from the publication’s team to uphold integrity, accuracy, and balanced reporting as Kagay Sibugay positions itself as a beacon of truth and a trusted source of information for Sibugaynons. Kagay Sibugay’s re-emergence marks a significant step toward strengthening local media and giving the people of Zamboanga Sibugay a clearer, louder, and more truthful voice.
