Alicia Hosts Historic Opening of Zamboanga Sibugay’s Silver Anniversary Celebration
IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay - In a landmark moment for the province, the Opening Ceremony of the Silver Anniversary of Zamboanga Sibugay was conducted outside the Provincial Capitol for the first time in its 25-year history, bringing the official kickoff of Araw ng Zamboanga to the Municipality of Alicia.
Traditionally held at the Capitol grounds in Ipil, the decision to stage this year’s opening rites at the grounds of Alicia National High School signified a meaningful shift toward inclusivity and shared provincial pride. The historic move underscored the message that the celebration belongs not only to the seat of government, but to every municipality and every Sibugaynon.
The day commenced with a ceremonial motorcade that began at the Oval of Ipil Central Elementary School in the capital town of Ipil and proceeded to Alicia. The convoy, participated in by provincial officials, municipal leaders, and various government representatives, symbolized unity and collective progress as it traversed from the provincial center to one of its municipalities. Residents along the route warmly welcomed the motorcade, adding to the festive and historic atmosphere.
Upon arrival in Alicia, a large crowd composed of residents, local leaders, employees from national and provincial agencies, students, and community members gathered at the venue. The atmosphere was marked by enthusiasm and pride as the province formally began its 25th founding anniversary celebration.
Governor Dulce Ann K. Hofer led the opening ceremony and officially declared the commencement of the Silver Anniversary celebration following the Silent Military Drill Competition, which opened the day’s activities. The disciplined and synchronized exhibition reflected not only the participants’ precision and training but also the strength and unity that characterize the province.
Present during the ceremony were First District Congressman Atty. Marlo Bancoro and Second District Congresswoman Dr. Marly Hofer-Hasim, both expressing full support for the historic undertaking. Fourteen of the province’s sixteen municipal mayors attended the event, demonstrating solidarity among local chief executives.

Vice Governor Richard Olegario and members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan were also present, along with representatives from various national government agencies and department heads of the provincial government. Their attendance highlighted the collaborative spirit behind the celebration and the collective commitment to honoring the province’s milestones.
A highlight of the program was the formal presentation of the candidates for Queen of Sibugay and Binibining Sibugay. The event also marked another milestone with the introduction of the first-ever Mr. Sibugay candidates, expanding the province’s pageantry tradition and adding excitement to this year’s festivities.
As evening fell, the celebration transitioned into a concert program featuring guest performers. The night culminated in a lively performance by SexBomb member and entertainer Rochelle Pangilinan, whose appearance energized the crowd and concluded the opening ceremony on a high note.
Beyond the festivities and entertainment, the historic relocation of the opening rites conveyed a deeper significance. By bringing the ceremony to Alicia, the provincial government emphasized inclusivity, shared ownership, and the importance of engaging communities throughout Zamboanga Sibugay.
As the province commemorates 25 years of growth, resilience, and development, the successful and historic opening in Alicia stands as a testament to unity and progress-affirming that the celebration of Araw ng Zamboanga is truly a celebration of all its people.
