Makilas Super Health Center Opens to Serve Ipil Residents

IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay - After years of anticipation, the long-awaited Super Health Center in Barangay Makilas has finally opened its doors to the public, marking a major milestone in the delivery of accessible healthcare services in the municipality of Ipil.

On March 10, 2026, the facility officially held its soft opening, signaling the beginning of its operations and its commitment to serve the healthcare needs of Ipil residents. The establishment of the Super Health Center aims to decongest the Rural Health Unit located in the town proper and provide more convenient access to medical services, especially for residents in nearby barangays.

Despite the building being nearly completed earlier, the facility remained idle for almost a year due to the lack of essential operational requirements, particularly electricity. Recognizing the urgent need to activate the center, Ipil Mayor Ramses Troy Olegario took the initiative to push for its completion and operationalization. With the strong support of Governor Ann Hofer, the Provincial Government allocated ₱1.8 million to fund the electrification of the facility, an essential step that finally made its opening possible.

Mayor Olegario emphasized that the activation of the Makilas Super Health Center is part of a broader effort to strengthen primary healthcare services in the municipality and improve the overall health system at the grassroots level.

With Dr. Elman Jainudin at the forefront of its medical services, the facility is now equipped to provide a wide range of essential healthcare services. These include regular medical consultations, Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses (IMCI), treatment of common illnesses, emergency and initial medical care, and patient transport services.

The center is also expected to play a crucial role in addressing immediate medical concerns, stabilizing patients before referral, and ensuring that residents receive timely care without the need to travel far distances. According to Mayor Olegario, a standby ambulance has been deployed to support the operations of the facility, further strengthening its emergency response capability.

Beyond providing medical services, the Super Health Center is envisioned to become a vital hub for community health programs, preventive care, and health education initiatives. It is expected to help promote early detection of illnesses, proper health practices, and overall wellness among residents.

The opening of the Makilas Super Health Center reflects the local government’s continued commitment to improving healthcare accessibility and ensuring that quality medical services are within reach for every Ipileno. It also highlights the importance of collaboration between municipal and provincial leadership in addressing the needs of the community. As the facility begins full operations, residents of Ipil can now look forward to more efficient, accessible, and responsive healthcare services-bringing essential medical care closer to home and contributing to a healthier and more resilient community.
