ZSBPPO Probes Alleged Police Misconduct During Muffler Operation in Ipil
IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay — The Zamboanga Sibugay Police Provincial Office (ZSBPPO) has launched an investigation into an alleged incident involving a police officer who was reportedly conducting an operation against motorcycles with excessively loud mufflers in the vicinity of Budgetwise in Ipil.
The police provincial office issued an official statement after a video and accompanying allegations circulated on social media, drawing public attention to the conduct of the officer during the incident.
According to the ZSBPPO, the allegations include claims that the police officer was allegedly intoxicated, improperly displaying a firearm, and behaving in an unprofessional manner while carrying out the operation.
The police office emphasized that the allegations have yet to be established and that authorities are currently verifying the circumstances surrounding the incident.

ZSBPPO said it does not tolerate misconduct in the performance of police duties and that any personnel found to have violated established rules, regulations or procedures could face appropriate administrative and legal action.
The investigation is intended to determine what actually transpired, including the circumstances leading to the confrontation captured in the circulating video and whether established police operational procedures were followed.
The police provincial office has also appealed to individuals who personally witnessed the incident or possess photographs, videos or other relevant evidence to coordinate with authorities.
Such information, it said, would help investigators establish the facts and ensure that the matter is handled fairly and in accordance with due process.
The incident has also highlighted the importance of accountability in police operations, particularly when officers are exercising enforcement powers in public places.
ZSBPPO acknowledged that citizens have the right to raise concerns and share observations about police actions, saying public feedback plays an important role in promoting transparency, accountability and public trust.
At the same time, the police office clarified that operations targeting motorcycles equipped with excessively loud mufflers are legitimate enforcement activities carried out pursuant to existing traffic laws and applicable local ordinances.
Such operations are intended to address excessive noise and promote road safety and order within communities.
However, the police provincial office stressed that enforcement activities must still be conducted professionally and within the bounds of law and established police procedures.
For now, no final determination has been made regarding the allegations against the officer involved.
The ZSBPPO said it will continue its verification and investigation and will take appropriate action should the allegations be substantiated.
