Malangas Police, LGU Join Mangrove Conservation Activities to Protect Coastal Ecosystem
Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay – The Malangas Municipal Police Station (MPS), in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Malangas, took part in various environmental activities aimed at promoting mangrove conservation and coastal protection during the observance of the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem on July 27, 2026.
Led by PLT Gina G. Magnaye, Officer-in-Charge of Malangas MPS, police personnel joined hands with local officials and community stakeholders in activities spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-CENRO) Imelda.
The celebration carried the theme “Intact Mangroves, Protected Future,” highlighting the vital role of mangrove forests in protecting coastal communities, preserving marine biodiversity, and strengthening resilience against climate-related threats.

Representing the Municipal Government of Malangas were Mayor Hon. Anna Florence C. Yambao and Vice Mayor Hon. Marcelo M. Baquial Jr., who joined the initiative in support of efforts to promote environmental stewardship and sustainable development.
The activity featured several environmental initiatives, including a Mangrove Tour, Beach Clean-Up Drive, Mangrove Growing Activity, and Communication, Education and Public Awareness (CEPA) Campaign.
Through the mangrove tour, participants gained a deeper understanding of the ecological importance of mangrove ecosystems and their contribution to maintaining healthy coastal environments. Meanwhile, the beach clean-up and mangrove planting activities encouraged community involvement in protecting natural resources and preserving the beauty of coastal areas.
The CEPA campaign further emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in conserving mangrove forests, educating participants on the benefits of mangroves as natural barriers against storm surges, habitats for marine species, and sources of livelihood for coastal communities.
Malangas MPS emphasized that environmental protection is a shared responsibility that requires strong cooperation among government agencies, local communities, and other stakeholders. The police station reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote a safer, greener, and more resilient community.
The successful conduct of the activity demonstrated the continuing partnership between law enforcement, local government, and environmental agencies in protecting the natural resources of Malangas and ensuring that future generations will continue to benefit from a healthy and sustainable coastal ecosystem.
