Mercury Drug Ipil Joins DSWD GL Network, Improving Access to Medicines in Sibugay
IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay, June 22, 2026 — Residents of Zamboanga Sibugay now have improved access to essential medicines following confirmation that the Mercury Drug branch in Ipil is among those accepting Guarantee Letters (GLs) issued by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The update was announced through the agency’s official social media platform, confirming earlier reports about the possible inclusion of the Ipil branch in the list of participating outlets.
Through its renewed partnership with Mercury Drug, the DSWD has authorized 262 branches nationwide to honor GLs under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program. The initiative allows qualified beneficiaries to obtain prescribed medicines and medical supplies without the need for upfront payment.

The inclusion of the Ipil branch is expected to provide significant relief to patients and families in Zamboanga Sibugay, particularly those facing urgent medical needs. With a participating outlet now available within the province, beneficiaries can avoid traveling to other areas to access assistance.
The DSWD said the move forms part of its ongoing efforts to enhance the delivery of social protection services by making them more accessible and efficient. Beneficiaries are advised to look for designated signage in participating Mercury Drug branches to ensure their GLs can be processed.
The agency also emphasized that the program aligns with the national government’s push to make public services more responsive and accessible, especially for vulnerable sectors.
The Guarantee Letter serves as an official document that assures payment for medicines and other covered services for eligible clients under DSWD assistance programs.
Prior to this, the DSWD had expanded its network of partner pharmacies, including Generika Drugstore, to provide more options for beneficiaries across the country.
