Ipilenos in California Reconnect Over Food and Fellowship in San Bruno

Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay— An early dinner gathering over the weekend brought together a group of Ipilenos living in California, turning a simple meal at Sa Isla, a Filipino restaurant in San Bruno, into a warm reunion of families and friends who share a common hometown -Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

The gathering brought together members of the Subejano, Bordner, Cenas, Natividad, Rabosa and Sardual families, providing an opportunity for old friends and fellow Ipilenos to reconnect, share stories and reminisce about home.

Over a sumptuous Filipino dinner, conversations flowed as the group caught up on each other's lives and recalled memories of Ipil. The gathering also reflected the different generations of Ipilenos in California, with one table informally reserved for the seniors while another brought together the younger generation.

Among those who attended were former Ipil Vice Mayor Edward Bordner and former Ipil Councilor Eleanor F. Sardual, adding familiar faces from Ipil's community and public-service history to the gathering.

For the participants, the reunion was long overdue. Distance, busy schedules and life abroad can make it difficult for people from the same hometown to regularly reconnect. The dinner provided a welcome opportunity to pause, catch up and celebrate the bond that comes from being Ipilenos.

More than simply sharing a meal, the gathering highlighted how hometown connections can remain strong even after people have moved thousands of miles away. The stories, memories and friendships built in Ipil continue to serve as a common thread among those who now call California home.

There is also hope that the San Bruno gathering will be the beginning of more regular get-togethers, bringing together more Ipilenos and their families across California and eventually creating a wider network of hometown friends and families in the United States.

Such gatherings can also help introduce the younger generation to the people, stories and roots that connect their families to Ipil.

From one table of seniors to another of juniors, the evening was a celebration of family, friendship, shared memories and hometown pride.
