Zamboanga Sibugay Military Exercise to Feature Simulated Gunfire, Airborne and Maritime Operations

Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay — Residents in parts of Zamboanga Sibugay are advised to remain calm as the 106th Infantry (TIGPANALIPOD) Battalion of the Philippine Army conducts a series of military exercises on August 10, 11, 12, 18 and 20 as part of its continuing efforts to enhance operational capabilities and inter-agency preparedness.

The KALASAG SIBUGAY Inter-Agency Territorial Defense Operation (IATDO) Exercise 02-2026 will involve various military and inter-agency activities designed to strengthen coordination, readiness and response capabilities in territorial defense and emergency situations.

The public may hear sirens and simulated gunfire and may observe increased movements of military personnel, vehicles and equipment in areas covered by the exercises.

A major component of the exercise will take place on August 11, Tuesday, from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m., with the live execution of maritime operations, counter-landing operations, airborne operations and close-quarters battle (CQB) exercises.

The activities will be conducted within designated areas identified by the military, including Magdaup, Palid, Naga, Pandilusan and the Ipil Airstrip, as well as other designated locations within Zamboanga Sibugay.

The exercise will continue with a reservist mobilization rehearsal on August 13, Thursday, from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. The activity is intended to test and improve the mobilization and coordination of reservists as part of the province's overall territorial defense preparedness.

On August 18, authorities will conduct rehearsals for Non-Combatant Evacuation Operations (NEO) and Mass Casualty Evacuation (MCE). The activities will simulate the evacuation of civilians and the response to situations involving multiple casualties.

The series of exercises will culminate on August 20 with the execution of checkpoint operations, NEO and MCE exercises.

The Philippine Army emphasized that the activities are scheduled and controlled military exercises conducted under the Inter-Agency Territorial Defense Operations framework.

The public is therefore urged not to panic upon hearing simulated gunfire, sirens or seeing heightened military activity in the designated areas.

The unusual sounds and movements are part of the planned exercises and do not indicate an actual security threat or ongoing armed encounter.

Authorities appealed for the cooperation of residents and the general public throughout the duration of the activities, saying public awareness and cooperation are important to maintaining safety and ensuring the successful conduct of the exercises.

Residents in affected areas are advised to remain calm, follow instructions from authorities and avoid interfering with the scheduled military activities.

The KALASAG SIBUGAY exercise is part of the continuing capability enhancement and preparedness initiatives of the 106th Infantry Battalion and its partner agencies to ensure a coordinated and effective response should actual territorial defense, evacuation or emergency operations become necessary.
