The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) of Zamboanga del Sur has extended immediate assistance to families affected by a fire that struck Barangay San Pedro, Pagadian City shortly after midnight on September 12, 2026.

A total of 252 affected families received food packs from the provincial government as part of its initial response to the incident, providing much-needed support to residents who were suddenly displaced and left facing the aftermath of the fire.

Aside from the distribution of relief goods, PSWDO social workers conducted intake interviews and individual assessments among the affected families.

The assessment was carried out to determine their immediate and longer-term needs and to identify other forms of assistance that may be extended by the Provincial Government of Zamboanga del Sur.

The provincial social welfare office said the response forms part of its continuing commitment to reach communities affected by emergencies and provide assistance based on their assessed needs.

The immediate intervention was made possible through the support of Governor Divina Grace C. Yu, whose administration directed assistance toward the families affected by the incident.

Her support, the PSWDO said, reflects the provincial government's commitment to providing timely assistance and extending compassion to residents facing difficult circumstances.

For the affected families, the assistance comes at a critical time as they begin dealing with the disruption and losses brought about by the fire.

The PSWDO assured residents that its social workers will continue coordinating with concerned local authorities and monitoring the situation to determine what additional assistance may be needed.
