IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay — A ₱500,000 allocation of the Zamboanga Sibugay Council of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) will be used to help pay the registration fees of Scouts from less fortunate families across the province, opening the door for more young people to participate in Scouting regardless of their financial circumstances.

The allocation was taken up during a Council meeting held Wednesday at the Governor’s Office at the Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Capitol, where the Council approved a motion presented by Council Commissioner Virgilio P. Batan, CESO V., CSE, and duly seconded by another Council member.

The funding is intended specifically to ease the financial burden of registration for Scouts who may otherwise find it difficult to participate because of their families’ limited resources.

The initiative underscores the Council’s effort to make Scouting more accessible to young people throughout Zamboanga Sibugay, particularly those who have the interest and potential to benefit from the organization but may need financial assistance to become officially registered members.

The meeting was presided over by Governor Dr. Dulce Ann K. Hofer, who also serves as chair of the Zamboanga Sibugay BSP Council. Joining her were Vice Chairmen Atty. Jay Millena and Rosmindo Anchita, along with members of the Council Board and other officials.

Among those present were Council Commissioner Batan and Council members Gayo Centurias, Emily España, Moner Escobar, Richard Laurea, Daphne Santuyo and Mary Ann Patindol, among others.

The funding support is expected to benefit Scouts from different parts of the province, particularly children and young people whose families may struggle to shoulder membership-related expenses.

The Council’s decision reflects the broader role of Scouting in developing young people beyond classroom learning, particularly through activities that promote discipline, leadership, responsibility, teamwork and service to others.

By helping remove financial barriers to registration, the Zamboanga Sibugay BSP Council aims to give more young people the opportunity to become part of the Scouting movement and take part in programs that build character and leadership.

The Council emphasized that the initiative is not simply about covering registration fees, but about ensuring that financial limitations do not prevent qualified young people from accessing opportunities for growth, learning and community involvement.

Despite the rainy weather during the meeting, the Council described the occasion as a productive step toward expanding access to Scouting across the province, demonstrating that efforts to empower the youth can continue rain or shine.
