ZAMBOANGA CITY INTRODUCES GADGET-FREE WEEKENDS CAMPAIGN

In line with the celebration of National Children’s Month, the City Government of Zamboanga, through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), officially launched on Monday, November 3, 2025, the “No Phone Initiative.” " is advocacy will be implemented in all restaurants and dining establishments during weekends throughout November, aiming to promote family bonding and uphold the well-being of children.

As posted in Zamboanga City government’s Facebook page, City Government of Zamboanga, the launch took place during the flag-raising ceremony at the City Hall grounds last Monday, which also marked the start of the city’s National Children’s Month activities

The campaign encourages diners and patrons to avoid using mobile phones, tablets, laptops, and similar electronic devices while eating in participating establishments from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on November 8–9, 15–29–30. Restaurant employees and staff are likewise reminded to minimize gadget use during work hours, except when necessary for official duties or emergencies.

The initiative applies to all types of dining venues—including restaurants, cafés, coffee shops, fast-food outlets, food courts, canteens, hotels, resorts, and inns.

Participating establishments are encouraged to set up “Gadget-Free Zones” or “Family Conversation Areas” to promote the advocacy. Suggested campaign slogans include “Unplug to Connect,” “Talk More, Scroll Less,” and “Disconnect to Reconnect.”

However, exceptions will be made for gadget use in emergency communication, medical monitoring, or official work coordination. Devices may also be used for cashless payments, digital menus, or ordering systems when absolutely necessary.
