Akbayan Partylist Sponsors Sibugay Music Fest, A Heartfelt Reunion of Local Talent
IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay- A night of music, unity, and heartfelt celebration lit up Ipil Municipal Covered Court at the 3rd Sibugay Music Fest, proudly sponsored by the Akbayan Partylist in honor of the province’s 25th Araw ng Sibugay. While not part of the official activities of the Provincial Government, the festival was organized to join the celebration and to serve as a reunion for local musicians who had long awaited the opportunity to perform together.
Musicians from every corner of Zamboanga Sibugay came to this special night, united by a shared love for music and a moment to have their talents recognized. Nearly a hundred performers, representing municipalities across the province, shared the stage under the banner of Musikeros sa Sibugay, creating a vibrant and heartfelt display of passion, camaraderie, and community spirit.
Their music sent a powerful message: creativity and collaboration have the power to unite and inspire. Even with very little time to prepare, the festival came together seamlessly. With the unwavering support of Akbayan, and the performers’ long-awaited anticipation for such an event, gathering musicians in one venue was effortless. For many, it was more than a performance. It was a moment to shine, to reconnect, and to celebrate their shared journey. Artists expressed hope that conversations with local leaders could help transform their passion into a sustainable local music industry that uplifts the entire province.

The Sibugay Music Fest carries a legacy of resilience. Its first edition, held during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, was sponsored by then-Congresswoman now Governor Ann Hofer at Uptown Kamayan, bringing hope and joy to communities through the universal language of music. This third edition builds on that legacy, offering a platform not only for performance but also for strengthening bonds among local musicians and fostering recognition for their craft.
Adding inspiration and star power to the festival were Ato Mariano, founding father of Earth Music, and Akbayan Board Member Atty. Eldwin Alibutdan. Also present to support the artists was Board Member Jonathan Yambao, a musician himself, who joined the festivities not just as a supporter, but as a fellow artist who understands the heartbeat of the local music scene. Alibutdan reminded everyone, “Just as Akbayan is here to care for the people, we are here to support local musicians, to protect their craft, nurture their talent, and help their industry thrive.”
The evening held an extra special touch, coinciding with the birthday of Akbayan Representative Dadah Kiram Ismula, who was warmly greeted throughout the night. By the time the final notes faded and the stage lights dimmed, the festival had done more than entertain. It had reunited musicians, ignited dreams, strengthened bonds, and reminded everyone of the unifying power of music.
The 3rd Sibugay Music Fest will be remembered not just as a concert, but as a heartfelt celebration of culture, talent, resilience, and the enduring spirit of a community that lifts each other through song.
