BUSINESSMAN ARRESTED IN TITAY FOR 12 COUNTS UNDER BOUNCING CHECKS LAW
Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay — A 45-year-old businessman from Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay was arrested by police authorities on Tuesday night, September 8, over 12 counts of alleged violation of the Bouncing Checks Law of the Philippines, or Batas Pambansa Blg. 22 (BP 22).
The suspect, identified by the alias “Weng,” was apprehended at around 9:40 p.m. at Purok Acacia, Barangay Poblacion, Titay, during an intelligence-driven law enforcement operation conducted by the Tracker Team of the Titay Municipal Police Station (MPS).
The operation was led by PMAJ Arnold A. Espares, ACOP, serving as the lead unit.
Police said the arrest was carried out by virtue of a Warrant of Arrest issued in connection with Criminal Case Nos. 13022-25 to 13033-25, covering 12 separate counts under the Bouncing Checks Law.
ADVERTISEMENTThe court recommended a bail bond of ₱12,000 for each count. If applied to all 12 cases, the recommended bail amounts to ₱144,000 in total.
During the operation, police operatives used Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 and Realme C25S mobile phones for documentation.
Authorities said the arrested person was informed of the cause and nature of his arrest and was apprised of his constitutional rights under the Miranda doctrine and the Anti-Torture Law in a language known to and understood by him.
Following his arrest, “Weng” was placed under the custody of the Titay MPS for proper documentation and disposition of the cases.
The suspect will face the appropriate court proceedings for the 12 cases filed against him under the Bouncing Checks Law.
As with all criminal cases, the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a competent court.
