Alicia Government Launches Investigation Into Reported Illegal Gambling Activities
Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay — The municipal government of Alicia is stepping up efforts to check reports of suspected illegal gambling-related operations, with Mayor Ardin B. Musa directing local authorities to investigate the reported activities and take appropriate action if violations are established.
Musa outlined the directive in a statement dated October 6, 2026, published on the municipality’s official Facebook page about an hour before this report was prepared.
The mayor made clear that his administration would not permit Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs), or similar enterprises, to operate within Alicia without the required authorizations and compliance with applicable regulations.
He cited concerns raised by cases at the national level, where certain illegal gambling operations have been associated with human trafficking, online scams, covert activities, and other forms of organized crime.

To determine the facts behind the reports, Musa said he had instructed the municipal police, barangay officials, and the Business Permits and Licensing Office to undertake an immediate and comprehensive inquiry.
He said the local government would pursue lawful action to halt the activities if investigators establish that the allegations are supported by evidence, with those found responsible held accountable under the law.
The mayor also stressed that efforts to attract businesses, create jobs, and stimulate the local economy must not jeopardize residents’ security, dignity, or well-being.
As part of the response, the municipal administration plans to intensify its oversight of business activities and improve its ability to identify establishments operating without proper authorization or engaging in suspicious activities.
Musa urged residents to assist in safeguarding their neighborhoods by promptly informing barangay leaders or the proper authorities about unusual movements, questionable business operations, or other circumstances that warrant investigation.
He particularly emphasized the need to protect children and vulnerable members of the population from potential exploitation and criminal activity.
The mayor described maintaining a safe and peaceful municipality as a responsibility shared by public officials and residents, calling for continued cooperation to preserve order and protect families across Alicia.
