Ipil Updates Tricycle Fare Rates Under New Municipal Ordinance
IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay - The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Ipil has approved a revised fare structure for tricycles following the passage of Municipal Ordinance No. 03-748-2026, which updates the regulation on passenger and freight charges for tricycles operating in the municipality.
The measure was endorsed by Ramses Troy Olegario to the Sangguniang Bayan of Ipil following a request from local transport groups for a fare adjustment. After a thorough review and deliberation during the council’s recent session, the municipal legislators found the proposal reasonable and necessary. Mayor Olegario subsequently approved the ordinance, formally revising the previous fare regulation for tricycles in the municipality.
According to the LGU, the fare adjustment was prompted by the continuing increase in petroleum prices in the global market, particularly gasoline, which has significantly affected the operational expenses of tricycle drivers and operators who rely on daily income to support their families. Despite the adjustment, the municipal government emphasized its commitment to maintaining a balanced and fair public transportation system that protects both commuters and transport workers.
ADVERTISEMENTNew Fare Structure Under the newly approved ordinance, the following fare rates will take effect:
• ₱20 minimum fare for the first kilometer per passenger
• ₱5 additional fare for every succeeding kilometer per passenger
• Discounted fares will continue to apply to priority sectors:
• ₱16 minimum fare for the first kilometer for senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and students
• ₱4 additional fare for every succeeding kilometer per passenger
The LGU clarified that fares will remain distance-based, following the kilometer system used in previous ordinances. Officials noted that this system ensures fairness by safeguarding the livelihood of drivers while also protecting passengers from unreasonable fare charges.
The LGU of Ipil is calling on both drivers and commuters to cooperate in the proper implementation of the ordinance to ensure fair fares, sustainable income for transport workers, and reliable public service.
Residents are also encouraged to report complaints related to fare collection or passenger treatment to the Municipal Information and Traffic Safety Office of Ipil, including reports about unauthorized or “colorum” tricycles operating in the area.
Municipal officials underscored that a fair and efficient transportation system remains a key component of a dynamic local economy and a safe, accessible community for all.
