Why Filipinos Didn’t Cry Foul Over Miss International 2025 Unlike Miss Universe 2025?

For a country where beauty pageants are practically considered as a national sport, Filipinos are known for reacting passionately when their candidates compete on the global stage. A surprising pattern emerged in 2025. While Miss Universe sparked waves of online debate, heated commentaries, and cries of “cooking show”, the Miss International results were received with far more calm, even grace.

Why did Filipinos take Miss International 2025’s results in stride? The answer lies in a combination of expectations, transparency, and the character of the pageant itself.

Miss International Has Always Been More Subdued, while Miss Universe thrives on spectacle: viral moments, high drama, dazzling production, and a finals night that resembles a sporting championship. In contrast, Miss International has always projected a gentler, more traditional tone. Its judges, scoring system, and selection process are less talked about, less politicized, and less exposed to global scrutiny.

Filipinos, though deeply invested, tend to approach Miss International with more temperance. They celebrate wins wholeheartedly, but they also understand that the pageant’s criteria emphasize culture, advocacy, and poise over flamboyant competition. In short, the expectations are different.

Another reason the reaction was calmer is simple. The Filipino representative, Myrna, delivered a strong performance. She looked radiant in preliminaries and carried herself with grace throughout the competition. Many fans believed she had a real shot at the crown, and she did. Because she placed well, there was no sense of injustice. Filipinos were proud. Even those who wished for a higher placement acknowledged that the final Q&A was a determining factor and that the winner deserved her title. The outcome felt fair, and fairness rarely sparks outrage.

At Miss Universe, controversies often arise from unanswered questions: Who really scored the highest? Was the judging influenced by politics or business? Why did certain contestants advance or get cut? Miss International, by contrast, rarely becomes the center of conspiracy-style discussions. Its slower pacing and traditional format make it feel less chaotic and easier to accept. Fans could clearly see what worked and what didn’t, particularly during the Q&A, where tiny nuances matter. The result felt logical, not shocking.

Another factor is that part of why pageant controversies ignite is because supporters mirror the candidate’s emotions. When a contestant appears upset or blindsided, fans pick up the torch for them.

But in 2025, the Philippines' delegate accepted her placement with grace. She smiled, thanked her supporters, and expressed nothing but pride for representing the country. Her humility defused any potential outrage. If she wasn’t angry, why should her fans be?

The Winner Was Well-Received. The newly crowned Miss International was widely praised as deserving—both for her performance and her personality. Even Filipino fans, who can be fiercely nationalistic, acknowledged her strengths and charm.

It’s impossible to compare both pageants without acknowledging the emotional weight of Miss Universe in the Philippines. The country’s national pride is deeply tied to its successes there. Pia, Catriona, and the decades-long journey to the crown.

Expectations at Miss Universe are sky-high. Any decision that feels even slightly off sparks uproar. Miss International, though loved, doesn’t carry that same historical pressure. Filipinos simply have less to be angry about.

In the End, It Was a Matter of Acceptance Filipinos didn’t cry foul over Miss International 2025 because the results felt earned, reasonable, and respectful to all contestants involved. It was a competition where the Philippines shone, the winner impressed, and the final answer, which often makes or breaks the crown was taken as a fair turning point.

Rather than controversy, the night ended in celebration. A celebration of beauty, of culture, and of a candidate who carried the flag with dignity.

And sometimes, that’s all the fans really need.
