IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay - In a landmark display of unity and faith, Muslim communities across the 2nd District of Zamboanga Sibugay gathered for what is considered the grandest Eid Mubarak celebration ever held in the province. The historic event took place at the 2M Compound in Caparan, Ipil, the residence of District Representative Marly Hofer-Hasim, bringing together religious leaders, scholars, and members of various Muslim communities in a shared celebration of faith, unity, and cultural pride.

One of the highlights of the gathering was the Qur’an Reading Competition, which showcased the talent, discipline, and deep spiritual devotion of participants from different madrasahs. The activity not only honored the sacred text but also encouraged the younger generation to strengthen their connection to Islamic teachings.

Further reinforcing unity, leaders from five major madrasahs formally signed a pledge of commitment, expressing their collective support for initiatives aimed at uplifting and developing Muslim communities in the province.

Governor Ann Hofer graced the occasion and conveyed her unwavering support. In her message, she acknowledged the steadfast backing of Muslim communities throughout her years in public service, even during her time as a congresswoman. In a heartfelt tribute, Congresswoman Hofer-Hasim described the governor as “a non-Muslim by blood, but a Muslim by heart,” highlighting her deep respect, connection, and genuine commitment to the Muslim community.

Also present was Provincial Director Barnard Danie Dasugo, who shared that it was his first time attending such a celebration. He emphasized the importance of their engagement with Muslim communities, noting their participation in iftar gatherings across mosques in the province.

Representing the military, BGen Samuel Yunque, the 102nd Brigade Commander, expressed his profound respect for Islamic culture and traditions, underscoring the importance of mutual understanding, peace, and solidarity. In her address, Congresswoman Hofer-Hasim emphasized that this historic gathering was inspired by the vision of her father-in-law, former DPWH Regional Director Madzmo Hasim, whose enduring efforts were dedicated to uniting Muslim communities in Zamboanga Sibugay.

Earlier in the day, local government officials of Ipil were also present at the gathering. Ipil Mayor Ramses Troy Olegario, together with Sangguniang Bayan members Ian Sabijon, Iric Alibutdan, and Dianne Cataluna, joined the Hasim family for lunch.

Also in attendance were RTLim Mayor Michael Piodena, along with his vice mayor; Titay Vice Mayor Leonardo Talania; Siay Mayor Jun-jun Acosta; Kabasalan Municipal Administrator Lycel Castor-Tan; and former Tungawan Mayor Carlnan Climaco.

At the provincial level, Board Members Eldwin Alibutdan, Glenn Sabijon, and Vic Javier were likewise present. More than a celebration, the event stood as a powerful symbol of unity, bringing together faith, leadership, and community in pursuit of a more inclusive, harmonious, and progressive Zamboanga Sibugay.
