BHWs in Zamboanga Sibugay Receive P7,000 Cash Gift from Provincial Government

IPIL, ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY — Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) across Zamboanga Sibugay received a ₱7,000 cash gift from the Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU) today, December 18, 2025 in recognition of their vital role in delivering basic health services to communities.

The distribution was led by Governor Ann Hofer, who commended the dedication and sacrifices of BHWs in ensuring accessible and responsive healthcare at the grassroots level. The cash assistance forms part of the province’s continuing support for frontline health workers.

Provincial officials noted that since Governor Hofer assumed office, the PLGU has consistently provided cash gifts to BHWs every December as a gesture of appreciation for their invaluable service. This year’s ₱7,000 cash gift is the biggest amount given so far, highlighting the provincial government’s strengthened commitment to supporting barangay health workers.

Present during the occasion were Vice Governor Richard Olegario, Board Members Pava Hofer and Shariff Mazin Hasim, and Provincial Health Officer Dr. Ulysses Silorio, who joined the governor in acknowledging the important role of BHWs in the province’s healthcare system.

Barangay Health Workers serve as the first point of contact in the healthcare system, assisting in maternal and child care, health education, patient monitoring, and the implementation of various public health programs. Provincial leaders emphasized that the annual cash gift aims to help ease the financial burden of BHWs while recognizing their dedication to community service.

Governor Hofer reiterated the provincial government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare services and continuing programs that support and uplift health workers across Zamboanga Sibugay. The governor further drew applause from those in attendance after announcing that, as part of her continued support for Barangay Health Workers, she plans to provide one blood pressure apparatus to each BHW next year.

BHW recipients expressed their gratitude to the provincial government, saying the assistance would help support their daily needs and further motivate them to continue serving their communities with compassion and dedication.

The PLGU affirmed that it will continue to sustain and enhance initiatives that recognize the contributions of health workers as part of its broader efforts to improve healthcare delivery in the province.
