Mother, Three Children Found Brutally Slain Inside Home in Josefina
Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay - A quiet community in Barangay Litapan, Josefina, Zamboanga del Sur, was shaken by a horrific crime after a mother and her three children were found dead inside their home on Monday morning.
Police identified the victims as Arlene Fernan Dumalte, 42, a Barangay Health Worker, and her children—Nashyl, 16; En-en, 14; and Arnel, 11. Authorities said all four died from multiple stab wounds.
The gruesome discovery was made at around 6:45 a.m. by Barangay Kagawad Alejo Indangan, who was heading to his farm when he noticed what appeared to be a woman's arm protruding through a damaged section of the house. Alarmed by the bloodstains and a foul odor coming from the residence, he immediately sought assistance from the police.

Responding officers from the Josefina Municipal Police Station, led by PLT Julito T. Pamalaran and investigator Pat Ryan C. Moñaza, reached the scene at approximately 7:30 a.m. The residence is located about six kilometers from the police station, with the final portion of the route accessible only on foot, making the response more challenging.
Police immediately secured the area while personnel from the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) arrived at around 9:40 a.m. to conduct a forensic examination and process the crime scene.
Initial investigation indicates that the perpetrator or perpetrators may have gained entry through the damaged portion of the wall where the witness first spotted one of the victims. Investigators also learned that the family was last seen alive on the evening of June 27, when the children were reportedly using a nearby public Wi-Fi connection.
Authorities have yet to establish the motive behind the killings, and no suspects have been identified as of this writing. The Josefina Municipal Police Station continues to pursue all possible leads and is appealing to anyone with information that may help solve the case to immediately coordinate with law enforcement.
