Siay NHS Students Win Silver at ICIA 2026, Bring Pride to the Philippines
Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay - Young innovators from Siay National High School made the Philippines proud after securing Silver Awards at the ICIA 2026 International Competitions, demonstrating excellence and creativity on the global stage.
Leading the achievement is Irish Velasco, who was recognized in the Innovation Award Category for her completed research project, “ElectroJetts.” Her work stood out for its ingenuity, practical relevance, and strong research foundation. Under the mentorship of Coach Janice Luchana, Velasco’s success was further underscored by a scholarship offer from a university in Indonesia, highlighting her promise as a future leader in innovation.
In the Innovation Challenge Category, Danielle Mhay Braza showcased her research proposal, “GABAY SNED,” which focuses on promoting inclusive education and enhancing support systems for learners with special needs. Guided by Coach Amigo, her study was lauded for offering meaningful and implementable solutions that address real educational gaps.

The students’ international success was made possible through the collective support of local government leaders and stakeholders. Among those who extended financial and moral support were Julius Acosta Jr., Vice Mayor Gerald “Jet” Acosta, members of the Sangguniang Bayan, Vice Governor Ric2x Olegario, and members of the Provincial Board, along with the Siay NHS community and the students’ families.
School officials described the achievement as a reflection of the learners’ passion, perseverance, and commitment to excellence. More than just medals, their success highlights the potential of Filipino youth to compete and thrive on the international stage. The accomplishment not only brings pride to Siay and Zamboanga Sibugay but also serves as an inspiration for other students to pursue research, embrace innovation, and contribute to nation-building through knowledge and creativity.
