Ipi, Zamboanga Sibugay— The Zamboanga del Norte provincial government has vowed to conduct a fair and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the recent death of a young patient at the Sindangan District Hospital following reports about the incident that circulated widely on social media.

In an official statement issued October 4, Governor Darel Dexter T. Uy expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family and acknowledged the pain and grief caused by the death of the young patient.

The governor assured the public that a thorough investigation will be pursued to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and determine whether there were any deficiencies or shortcomings in the delivery of medical services.

The provincial government emphasized that the inquiry must be conducted fairly, comprehensively and objectively, with the facts established before any conclusions are reached.

Should the investigation establish violations, negligence or other lapses in the delivery of healthcare services, the provincial government said appropriate accountability must follow in accordance with existing rules and due process.

At the same time, the provincial government recognized the difficult work of doctors, nurses and other healthcare personnel, particularly amid the continuing challenges faced by the public health system. It stressed, however, that these challenges should not compromise the quality of care that patients are entitled to receive.

The provincial government reiterated its commitment to providing accessible, equitable and quality healthcare services to residents of Zamboanga del Norte, saying the incident also highlights the need to continuously strengthen the province's healthcare system.

It further called for sustained improvements in public health services to ensure that patients receive timely, responsive and appropriate medical care.

While the incident has generated public concern following its circulation on social media, authorities have yet to release the complete findings of the investigation. Any determination of responsibility will be based on the results of the official inquiry and established through due process.

The provincial government said it remains committed to protecting the lives and welfare of Zamboanga del Norte residents and to ensuring that public healthcare services continue to improve in the wake of the incident.
