IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay -In a significant development in the government’s ongoing campaign to strengthen peace and security, the alleged leader and a member of the Labain Criminal Group (LCG) voluntarily surrendered to authorities and were formally served their warrants of arrest during a coordinated operation in Barangay Sanito, Ipil.
The surrenderers were identified as Yasher Indal Hassan, also known as “Almain Apidol Labain,” believed to be the leader of the group, and Mahmod I. Kalim, an active member operating in the province.
The activity was witnessed by Tungawan Municipal Mayor Angelito “Lito” Aniñon, Police Colonel Barnard Danie V. Dasugo, Provincial Director of the Zamboanga Sibugay Police Provincial Office (ZSBPPO), and Brigadier General Samuel G. Yunque PA, Commander of the 102nd Infantry “IGSOON” Brigade of the Philippine Army.
Authorities described the peaceful surrender as a result of strong coordination among the Philippine Army, the Philippine National Police, and local government units in promoting peace, order, and public safety.
PCol. Dasugo commended the surrenderers for their courage in voluntarily submitting themselves to the authorities, describing their decision as a meaningful step toward peace and accountability. He also expressed appreciation to Mayor Aniñon for his unwavering support, noting that his leadership played a key role in the success of the operation. Dasugo added that the development is not only a milestone for Tungawan and Zamboanga Sibugay, but also for the entire Zamboanga Peninsula, as it contributes to building a safer and more progressive region.

Meanwhile, BGen. Yunque emphasized that achieving peace requires continuous and collective effort, underscoring that it serves as the foundation for lasting development. He called on all sectors to work together in maintaining stability and order, adding that the activity forms part of the government’s broader efforts to uphold justice and strengthen community security.
Following the statements, authorities read the contents of the arrest warrants against the surrenderers, who are facing charges of murder, three counts of frustrated murder, and eight counts of attempted murder.
For his part, Mayor Angelito “Lito” Aniñon expressed his gratitude to both the Philippine Army and the Philippine National Police for their support in facilitating the surrender despite initial challenges. He highlighted that through continuous communication and cooperation, stronger partnerships were formed.
The mayor also pointed out the difficult circumstances faced by members of the group, including limited access to education, lack of understanding of the law, and insufficient legal and economic support, which led them to hide in remote areas. He noted that their surrender reflects a desire to reintegrate into the community and pursue a more peaceful life.
Aniñon further assured that remaining members of the group will not be forced to surrender, emphasizing that lasting peace cannot be achieved through force, but through dialogue, trust, and mutual understanding.
